This guide is for veteran players, or new players alike, this guide will cover how to leave the starting planet and have enough material to allow an easier startup on the next planet you wish to live on
Read first
first off let me say, no matter the stage of the game you’re at the Astroneer Wiki[astroneer.fandom.com]is your best friend
I’ve left the starting planet many times, and it always helps to remember what you’ll need, new or veteran to the game, a recent update added quests, so I am making a new guide, and I will be leaving off some of those quests as they are more expensive than gathering the resources yourself, I would personally skip the “Re-Tooling” quest, as it would cost you more bytes to unlock the Soil Centrifuge research, skip any quest that requires you to spend time looking or researching things until later, and I recommend you finish quests as a secondary objective while looking for materials to build, or research, although you want to complete as many as possible before leaving the planet to negate the need for as many future trips back, skip most building quests, or save them for later when you are on your new home
There will be a section with all the raw resources and where to find them, but these are the items you need, or I recommend bringing as they make things easier later
- 1 Oxygenator (packed, this is important to leave packed up, as you use the ship slot for storage, and you unpack on your destination planet)
- 1 Small Shuttle
- 2 Solid-Fuel Thrusters (leave 1 packed, this is your backup thruster so you can leave easily later)
- 1 beacon
- 1 soil centrifuge (do not craft, just keep resources ready)
- 1 small platform A (packed, this is important to leave packed up)
- 1 small printer
- 1 medium printer (packed, this is important to leave packed up)
- 3 or 6 resin
- 1 or more bundle of tethers
These items are really just quality of life items or foresight for later game, and you won’t be able to bring most of them, so choose wisely, or try and bring what you think seems best fit for the last of your open slots
- 1-2 soil canisters (full of dirt, for the centrifuge)
- More research bytes (probably about 4000 will suit your needs on the next planet you choose)
- Any batteries you can bring
- As many Exo Chips as you can find and carry with you (mid to late game resource)
- QT-RTG
- Field shelter
- A worklight
- A drill mod (for your digging tool)
- Some spare aluminum
- Power items (like solar panels, or wind turbines depending on what the planet powers best (check Astropedia or Astroneer Wiki[astroneer.fandom.com])
For this section I will cover the resources you need, and where to find them, I will be excluding the cost of base parts you will need on Sylvia such as crafting stations and platforms
- 1 Ceramic (refined from Clay found on the surface)
- 5 Aluminum (refined from Laterite found in caves)
- 2 Ammonium (Found as ground resource in purple forests)
- 1 beacon (made from Quartz found in caves, or obtained as quest reward)
- 5 compound (gather more, although this is the bare minimum you need)
- 4 or 7 resin (gather more, although this is the bare minimum you need)
- 1-2 soil canisters – 1-2 resin
- Exo Chips – Found in Exo-Crates that must be blown up to obtain chips
- QT-RTG – Quest reward (Quest before leaving planet)
- Field shelter – Quest reward (Quest before leaving planet)
- A worklight – Made from Copper, refined from Malachite found in the rocky mountains
- A drill mod – Crafted from Ceramic, refined from Clay found on the surface
- Aluminum – Refined from Laterite found in caves (gather more than you think you need)
This is really just how to do the last quest once you have everything stored and you’re about to start filling your rocket, I recommend that you place all the items you can onto a single palate (Medium Storage) and whatever you can’t fit goes on your backpack (including optional stuff), for the quest “To Parts Unknown” which is the last quest before you need to go elsewhere in the solar system, do NOT unpack your oxygenator to put on the ship, use the one connected to your base on the starter planet, and place it into the slot in the ship, as soon as you have that done you can replace it into the base, and the quest is able to be completed normally, double check your checklist, and research catalog to make sure you have everything, and have researched the Soil Centrifuge as it costs much less bytes for you to skip the quest line that would normally give the centrifuge, and once you have checked everything and made sure you’re prepared, you are free to be on your way
